Our First Aba House

One day, many years ago, a friend and I were walking on the beach in Nungua. We stopped to admire the view in front of an empty plot of land. And that was the beginning of Aba House. It took almost 10 years to build. Putting up a wall…earning some more money…putting up another wall. But finally we had a unique building based (loosely) on traditional African architecture. I bought the land without a long term plan. Everyone thought I was building an art school because I had been teaching art as a volunteer and from there we created an environment of creativity and inclusion. Everyone , no matter their age or skills came for workshops, collaborations, dancing and an atmosphere of fun and cultural learning.

So many memories.

Because of weather and ocean interference Aba House became too difficult to maintain. Now we have a new Aba House just down the street from the original but far enough away from the ocean. We are starting new memories and hope you will join us.
